A Brief Introduction to Hong Kong Qi Geung Tai Ji Association
Our Association, which was formally founded in 2000, is a non-profitable registered organization based in Hong Kong. It aims at the development and popularization of the Chinese culture and meanwhile, makes a research on the development of breath control exercises, Taiji and kungfu in Hong Kong. Ever since its establishment, we have constantly gathered and invited quite many kungfu fans and supporters from all walks of life and from different streams and schools. By so doing we are trying to learn from each other and benefit each other. As our goal and scheme are widely accepted and appreciated by the martial arts circles, many masters have joined us to be our honorary presidents or honorary consultants so as to support the younger generation and push forward the development of the traditional Chinese martial arts in Hong Kong.
Our Association has often encouraged its members to take part in all kinds of competitions and exchange activities. In the past, we took part in many international kungfu competitions such as “The First Session of the World Taiji Quan Health Party” held in Shan Ya City of Hai Nan Province, “China Zhuhai International Taiji Quan Exchange Party” held in Zhuhai, “China Jiao Zuo the Second Session of the World Taiji Quan Anniversary Meeting”. As a result, we won many prizes in the above-mentioned competitions. At the same time, we also organized and sponsored some exchange teams such as “Hong Kong, Guang Zhou, Fo Shan Exchange Team” and “The Tour of Seeking the Origin of He Nan Taiji”. These exchange activities with domestic kungfu organizations have provided valuable opportunities for our members to broaden their field of vision and increase their skills and technique.
Moreover, in the past, we invited such masters as Wang Xi An, Chen Zheng Lei, Zhou Meng Yuan, Wang Zhan Jun, Wang Zhan Hai, Wang Hai Jun and Cai Chang Qing to take part in the joint performance in our annual grand event of “The Gathering of the Masters of the Traditional Chinese Martial Arts”.
In order to take an active part in the promotion of Taiji in the region, our Association provides social services for the local organizations. Our Association often gives kungfu demonstrations for other organizations. Our Association also participated in the activity for the celebration of the 5th Anniversary of the return of Hong Kong to China.。
In 2002, we invited some masters such as Wang Xi An, Zhou Meng Yuan and others to come to Hong Kong and give kungfu demonstrations in “The Gathering of the Masters of The Traditional Chinese Martial Arts” held in Wong Tai Sin Rising Dragon Market. This great occasion in the martial arts circles attracted the attention of the public media and aroused the interest of hundreds of thousands of citizens to enjoy the wonderful performance.
In 2003, our Association published some discs for learning “Buddhist Guardian Warrior’s Moving and Motionless Breath Control Exercises” and “Southern Shaolin Damo Yijinjing” so as to be more convenient for our members and citizens to learn. In May of the same year, Shaolin Temple, Hong Kong All Circles Culture Promotion Association and our Association took part in the promotion activities of “Heart to Heart and Hand in Hand, Guard Against SARS to Keep Fit Day” and “The Opening Geremony to Fight Against DARS Day”. In the said activities we taught thousands of participants to learn and practice Chen Jia Gou Taiji Keep Fit in 8 Forms.
On 31 July, 2003, in Hong Kong Stadium, our president, Hugo, took the lead and taught 12,500 teachers and students from Pao Liang Ju to practise Chen Jia Gou Taiji Keep Fit in 18 Forms. This grand occasion created a new Guinness’ world record with more than ten thousand people practising Taiji at the same time on the spot.
